Wisdom, Skill, Virtue- whether true in reality or merely in myth, there’s something compelling about the idea of the warrior-monk;  noblre yet humble; dedicated to a larger cause yet not arrogant; a man of thought, words, and spirit- the Shaolin priest-warrior; the taciturn dispossessed Ronin; the self-sacrificing Knight Templar, the Hindu Prince Arujun, etc, etc, etc.

Perhaps that’s why David Starr Jordan’s phrase lives on to this day Wisdom is knowing what to do next; Skill is knowing how to do it; and Virtue is doing it.
